Now that I have the business side of the coin flipped over lets get to the fun stuff. I wasn't going to write a blog this week and try and enjoy my vacation but I just can't stay away from you wonderful people. So here is my little recap of our last three shows. Friday we were in Lincoln for the Totally Rad 80's Run at The Salt Dogs Stadium and let me tell you it was HOT. The runners looked good and one of my friends even participated in the race. I have played a lot of shows in a lot of different weather but this was probably the hottest show I have ever played. So on this tour I have played the coldest show in Norfolk with Warrant at 48 degrees and the hottest in Lincoln at a staggering 100 degrees. I woke up on the bus Saturday all by myself which was very cool. We were at Septemberfest in Omaha. The show was great but the bus ride afterward was legendary. As soon as the trailer door shut a storm started to roll in. We knew it was going to be a bumpy ride but we had no idea. While heading north on I-29 we met the storm head on. I was riding up front and blam it hit us. It was raining so hard that the windows of the bus whited out for a few seconds. I thought that was it we were all goners. Luckily Hot Rod is a seasoned driver, he slowed down and we cruised right out of the rain. I had made my peace right there on the bus (not the first time). We made it to Sutherland by 5 AM and the stars were out welcoming us to this quite Iowa town.
The real story happened Sunday night. We began our show as usual and everything was going great. I was doing jump, high kicks, atomic hip thrust, you name it. On the third song of the second set I was doing one of my trademark spin moves and I rolled my ankle into the space where the two trailers meet. It made one of those sounds you can hear over a rock band a full volume. I though "That's it I broke my ankle". We had to keep going. I didn't tell anybody until or set break. I pulled Chappy aside and said I needed help I rolled my ankle and I don't know if I can do the rest of the show. He grabbed Mike our new lighting guy and a roll of yellow gaff tape and took me to the bus (the operating room). The pulled my shoe off, put a paper towel around my ankle and wrapped the whole thing up tight like a Christmas package. A nice smack to the ass and a "Get back in there" and we were playing again. Luckily for me the adrenaline pulled me through and I finished the set and help load out all of our equipment. A few hours later we were on the road.
I have always kind of thought of myself as indestructible. I seem to have one of those go, go, go mentalities. After the "Ankle Roll Heard Round The World", I can only go one speed, LIMPY. Ha ha, no wise cracks. This story is one for the books. As I said before I am lucky we have a week off. For the last two days I have done nothing but sit in a chair and ice my ankle. Boring. But everyone has been asking how the ankle feels and it's great to know so many people care. You want to know how it feels? It feels great. I am tough. Give me a few days and I will be back to %100 percent. Just sit back and relax for once.
