I Remember Halloween

Hello everybody, welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  We have so much going on this weekend and it just all piled up in the last few days.  First and foremost we will all celebrating Halloween this weekend.  You know you wait all year long for the big Halloween celebration.  It's the one day the playing field is equal and only the best man or zombie will walk away from the party in better shape then when they arrived.  So what's going on this weekend.  I am so excited to tell you that today I will be heading back to my hometown of Fremont, NE.  I will be doing a very special Glam Halloween Rock or Bust DJ set at Tin Lizzy's Tavern in Fremont 9pm - 1am.  That's right you heard best.  Expect this to be like a live radio broadcast except add liquor, family, and The Jager Girls.  I will be spinning glam, sleaze, punk, metal, classic rock, and even a few oldies.  It's going to be one hell of a rock n roll party.  Then Saturday The Midnight Devils Tour kicks back up for a double header in Fremont.  At 2:30 PM we will be doing an early show at The Fremont Mall for The Fremont Monster Walk.  This is a great event that gives underprivileged children a safe and reliable place to Trick or Treat.  All proceeds are going to The Low Income Ministries in Fremont.  Then later in the evening we head to the adult party.  We are making a return visit to one of the first bars that gave The Midnight Devils a chance, not to mention I broke the railing of the bar during a show one night.  RD's Place is going to be packed to the rafters with the wildest Halloween Party in Fremont.  We will be doing a costume contest at midnight so dress to win.

Tuesday, Nov. 1st  Sniper and I will be doing a live radio interview at 12 PM CST with Lunatic Fist on Regal Rock Radio,  We have been receiving some great radio support from stations all over the world.  We can't thank all those DJ's enough for spinning our records.  You guys are keeping the spirit of Rock n Roll alive.

On to the Halloween festivities.  I love this holiday and I know so many of you do too.  This was one of the first times I actually had the guts to dress up like Gene Simmons.  I figured I could get away with it without my dad flying off the handle.  I must have been 13 or 14 and my cousin Mel took me to Omaha to go costume shopping.  I wanted the full outfit and at the store they had one for $700.  I settled on a cheap black wig and the official kiss makeup kit.  I thought well hell I could go as Gene Simmons from the Dressed To Kill album cover.  Everyone knows that album cover.  It's like my Abbey Road.  Nobody got it and I was stuck walking around the neighborhood in a suit and pants with a wig and makeup smeared across my face.  I think this was the last time I went out Trick or Treating but I still made off with pillow cases full of candy.  At 14 you can walk forever and knock on every door in the city.  That was the first time I took a trip to the painted side.  I then realized it was cool as hell or at least cool to me and my friends.  We would paint our faces for any event.  Basketball games, school dances,  Tuesday night.  It was insanity but we loved the attention it got us.  Plus we were actually huge KISS nerds so do you ever really need an excuse?

The reason I love Halloween is because it lets everyone, even me, explore outside the comfort zone.  Granted playing in a band for all these years we are always at the office but that's the best part.  We become part of the party.  We get to be the soundtrack and watch all the madness unfold.  It's perfect.  You just wait for Sunday morning when all the party animals are doing the walk of shame in a naughty Batman costume.  I told you level playing field.  It's still a goal of mine to find a full KISS costume but I probably wouldn't even wear it.  I have one of those apartments that are top to bottom KISS collectibles.  My mom walked in the other day and said "Geeze Sam you really have a lot of KISS merch."  I told her I haven't thrown any away since I moved out of your basement 12 years ago.  I can't wait to see what the weekend brings and believe me there will be lots of pictures and videos.  Keep checking our social media accounts if you can't make any of the shows and don't forget to make my radio show, HAIR IN THE AIR, part of your Halloween fun.  It's airs Saturday night at 10 PM on 101.9 The Keg.

Delivering The Goods.

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  They always say you're only as good as your last show.  Well I feel The Midnight Devils came out last week and proved that we are a new force upon the Rock n Roll community.  We kicked off our new tour and made our debut at The 21st Saloon in Omaha, NE.  If you didn't catch the craziness on social media than I will bring you up to speed.  Not only was the show a great success, the band played was firing on all cylinders, and we actually succeeded in our first real test going out on our own.  The cherry on top was our new friends Tommy Henricksen, Ryan Roxie, and Glen Sobel from The Alice Cooper band stopping out and hopping up on stage for a classic T-Rex song.  The place absolutely went crazy.  15 year old Sam Spade was completely without words.  I just couldn't believe how well everything went.  Sometimes it's good and sometimes you know you're sitting on something very powerful.  Saturday's show at Loess Hills Harley-Davidson was an absolute blast.  I was just as nervous for this show because I knew we would all be going on 4 hours of sleep.  I didn't know if my voice would hold out.  We walked out on stage at 12:15 PM (which may be one of the earliest shows I've ever played) kicked it into overdrive and did exactly what we do best.  I kept looking over at Sniper think "Shit there's no stopping this now".  I want to say thank you and express my extreme gratitude to all of the fans, friends, and family that showed up to welcome this new musical direction.  I know you still have a ton of questions and soon enough you will have answers.  Until then i can only ask you to trust us.  We love you all and we are doing everything in our power to deliver the goods.

Last week I sat up at 4 AM nervous as hell writing a blog.  I love this blog and I love how it's become an insiders source to 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  You don't realize how much of a therapy this blog is.  Some weeks I dread writing it because nothing is really going on.  Some weeks there is so much happening that I simply run out of time.  Tonight I sit here and I can tell you that things are going good.  We had an amazing rehearsal tonight gearing up for our OEAA Showcase show Friday, Oct. 21st at The Waiting Room.  I feel that the future is bright and when things start looking good I feel inspired.  I'm inspired to write, I'm inspired to network my ass off, and I'm inspired to take care of the business.  The 21st Saloon show was a proving ground for The Midnight Devils.  It was our first test stepping out into the deep end. Tonight I feel like we are treading water but still have a long ways to go.  I knew it wasn't going to be easy but through your support, and the support of those close to us pushing us on, we will get there.

This week we are taking a well deserved break from performing but that doesn't mean that we are taking time away from the band.  Tomorrow I will be singing some guest vocals on an old friends new record and I think at the end of the day that's exactly what it's all about.  There are no egos or attitudes.  We are all here for the same reason and that is to listen to some great Rock n Roll music.  We are all apart of this music community and by spreading that love around we are making this a better more creative place.  Saturday I'm very excited to tell you I am doing a promo video for the OEAA Awards at Huber Cadillac.  I will be doing car pool karaoke to Andrew WK's "Party Hard" in a Cadillac.  Then Sniper and I will be making a very special meet and greet appearance at The Scream in The Dark Film Festival at Westwood Cinema in Omaha, NE.  Our song "In Your Face" was chossen to be in a brand new indie horror film called The Barn which will be screening at this film festival.  We got our fingers in everyone's pie.  Keep on believing and spreading the word.  We are all in this together.  This revolution and change is going to bring about great things for all of us.  That sounds like a political ad.

One Bad Mother: Raw Power

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official Blog of The Midnight Devils and 3D In Your Face.  It's now time.  As I am writing this I'm going over some last minute practise songs for this weekend.  For me the night is just getting started but by the time you read this you will be getting ready to destroy another Friday evening.   Tonight is the homecoming/debut of The Midnight Devils full-on electric circus at our home bar in Omaha, NE, The 21st Saloon.  Sniper, Playboy, and I have been busting our asses getting this thing ready for you.  We are coming out firing high on some really potent rock n roll.  Bringing the attitude and the danger that I know you so desperately crave.  Tonight is also a Neon Party sponsored by Mr. Joey Neon and Neon Energy Drinks.  Get your glow on with The Midnight Devils.  Also my radio station 101.9 The Keg has been so gracious as to give us three pairs of tickets to see Alice Cooper at The Ralston Arena this Saturday night.  We will be hosting the first ever Rock N Roll Olympics to win these tickets to see The Godfather of Shock Rock in the flesh and bone.  Saturday we are heading out to Pacific Junction, IA for a free all ages show at Loess Hills Harley Davidson.  This show is apart of HOGtoberfest and will begin at noon.  Food, drinks, bikes, and damn dirty rock n roll in the mornin'.  Baby were we're headed there aint no rest stops.  Get in the van and let's boogie.

Nights before shows with 3D In Your Face are always very exciting for me.  The anticipation builds and it gets tough to sleep.  With The Midnight Devils it's a whole different ball game.  It's fear of the dark.  It's like walking that razor's edge.  The unknown is terrifying yet truly exhilarating.  It's that same old feeling that I got stepping on stage 11 years ago not really even sure if we could finish an entire set.  I love it.  This means something and I think all the work and stress we've put into this band shows in the heart and soul of the songs.  It's pure and honest no bullshit rock n roll.  We've decided to do things differently and get back to the reason we started playing guitar in the first place.  It's that electrical spark that can't be created anywhere else.  I know, I've tried.  When it's 4 AM and you can't yet put your guitar down because you have to play it a few more times.  I was talking with Corey Phillips, one of the most amazing photographers in Omaha, and he told me forget about what you guys did in the past.  This is a whole new ball game.  Do it harder, do it louder, and for fuck sake turn some heads doing it.  Corey not only takes the best pictures but he also gives the best advice.  I told him Corey I have to get off the phone you've got me all jacked up and I need to capture this in the blog.

The raw power (borrowing from Iggy and The Stooges).  What else is there?  I was thinking about writing about how stressed everyone was getting before the tour kick off but fuck that.  We aren't stressed.  We have the best job in the world.  Later tonight we are going to be in a crowded room with our best friends screaming at the top of our lungs.  There will be booze, sweat, and blood I know that much for sure.  I just keep telling myself "Now how bad do you want this?  Can you push yourself harder?"  Baby I've got so much more to give.  I haven't even started.  Tonight is going to be something special I can already feel that.  It's going to be something different.  Corey told me "You better be bringing the pain tonight.  People are going to be watching".  I told him "You don't even have to worry abou that.  This is what we do best."  Change is good and I think change is going to be revolution.  This is just the start of something good I hope you can hang on.

PS.  The new 3D In Your Face music video is finished.  Jeremy Partridge did an amazing job and we would like to thank the great city of Memphis, NE for letting us terrorize your town.  More details on a release date and upcoming show will be posted soon.  Don't worry we aren't leaving you high and dry.
