What The Hell Happened Out There?

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official Blog of The Midnight Devils and 3D In Your Face.  So the big elephant in the room is what exactly happened out there?  I would like to apologize for my silence on here as of late.  I love this blog and for the last few weeks I wasn't really sure I could write down my feelings.  We went through so much in the last two weeks.  Soaring highs and bottomless lows.  Things are starting to straighten out and my heads finally coming back into the game.  I would like to thank all of our family and friends for being there, for answering the phone at 3 am, and for getting us headed back in the right direction.  Before I get into what happened on our "Road to Rocklahoma" Tour, I need to let you know that The Midnight Devils will be kicking off our new tour "The Other Side of Night" this Friday night in Sioux City, NE at The Huddle Lounge.  This is a 9 PM show and there will be no cover charge.  Then Saturday we make a big homecoming at The Chrome Lounge for the SOB Rally.  We will be headlining the event and will be playing inside from 11-1AM.  Filling in on the drums will be Wes Graffius from Omaha bands Murderhouse and Through The Stone and trust me this guy will rip your face off.  Tonight 3D In Your Face will be performing at Throttle Thursday at Dillon Bros. in Omaha, NE.  This will be a 6 PM show, all ages, and free admission.  Cars, bikes, babes, liquor, and so much glitter.  We are going to be shakin' it hard for the next three days and I've realize one thing, I miss you crazy people.  Don't forget to tune into my radio show also called HAIR IN THE AIR, Saturday night at 11 PM on 101.9 The Keg.  I will also be DJ'ing Friday morning 12-3 AM and Saturday morning 12-3 AM.  Tune in and crank up.

This blog has always been a place for me to air my feelings and anything else happening week by week in a operational rock n roll band but I will never turn this into something negative or a place to talk bad about someone.  That being said our "Road to Rocklahoma" Tour started out amazingly.  Sylvester's in Broken Bow, NE is a wild time and the family that runs the bar treats us just like one of their own.  That's something I'm very proud of.  "Knocking on Heaven's Door" will become a staple in that town.  Nick's on the Brick's in Kearney, NE is always wild as hell.  From start to finish people were there to have a good time.  They danced, they sang, and they drank a hell of a lot.  We will be back again Oct. 28th for Halloween.  The Legendary Boobie Trap bar in Topeka is another one of those diamonds in the rough.  One of the coolest rock n roll bars in the Midwest.  We invited Brian the owner up to sing a few songs and he ended up not only singing all night but he nailed it.  Huge thanks to John for letting us crash at The Twisted Diamond.  I was nervous about The Riot Room in KC.  This was a legit national venue and I didn't want us to mess up our chances of ever going back.  Opening band Vibralux walked out onto the stage in a pure glam/trash/sleaze/cross dressing/drag/theatrical fashion.  We were floored by their show and quickly became friends during one of those "I know you're putting on your lipstick but can I use the mirror to adjust my eye shadow" dressing room moments.  At the end of that show in KC that's when things started to go down hill.  There are a lot of stories that are floating around but pure and simple our drummer left the tour that night.  We were devastated and had no idea how to save the rest of the shows let alone make it to the biggest show of all Rocklahoma.  After a few calls late at night we tracked down Jimmy Mess formerly of The Prophets of Addiction now playing for from The Tattooed Millionaires.  He was available but unfortunately he was in Chicago.  I made a wild dash to Chicago picked him up in the early hours of the morning drove all the way back and we jumped in the van and pointed it towards Oklahoma City.

At this point we had some traction and we thought we might be able to pull this off.  Unfortunately we weren't able to save our show in Dewey, OK.  I've never cancelled a show before and that was one of the hardest calls I've ever had to make in my life.  Giz the owner at The Heritage Theatre busted her ass and took a chance on us and we couldn't fulfill our obligations.  Brian, the promoter and I had worked on this show for months and it felt like a ton of bricks hitting me in the chest to make that call that we had to cancel.  We promise to make it up to the great people of Dewey, OK later this year.  Back on track with a bad ass drummer in-tow, we landed in OKC with about an hour to spare.  We stopped at Omaha natives Justin and Sara King's house just long enough to grab an amazing steak dinner and a shower and head to Oklahoma City Limits for the show.  Jimmy feverishly listened to all of our songs and we walked him through the set list.  Opening band Follow The Wolves killed it and we stepped up onto the stage with nothing to lose.  The show went much better then I think Sniper or I anticipated.  Jimmy is a pro and was fearless through the whole night.  For our first dance we didn't do to bad and the great people at OKC Limits soon became like family to us.  Looks like we will be coming back again in Oct. and we can't wait to see you.  Next up was the big show Rocklahoma.  We showed up Thursday afternoon and it was immediately like one big class reunion.  I forgot how many friends we had made last year and seeing everyone again just really put us in a great mood.  Alan met us there at Pryor and we ended up supplying backline for the pre-party.  We hit the stage around 7 PM and Jimmy took it up another notch.  The crowd was ready for some glam slam rock n roll and we delivered it to them nonstop for 40 minutes.  Turn 'em and burn 'em.  We hung out until the early morning chatting with bands and catching up with our Rocklahoma crew.  Friday was an early one and we made it to the festival around 4 PM.  We walked around handing out flyers and taking pictures for most of the day.  Around midnight we got all dolled up and joined The Retrospect All star Band on stage for a cover of Panama by Van Halen.  That's when I decided to break out the pink tutu that Carrie Reeves hand made me.  You could see peoples jaws dropping as the three of us walked out on stage.  An amazing day and we by 2 AM we had stayed so long that they almost locked us inside the gates.  Saturday we had to be back to catch Moxy and The Influence's set.  Around 6 Jimmy and I took off to go catch Zakk Sabbath and about 4 songs in they shut the whole show down due to weather but promised it would be back up in an hour.  Not to be the case.  A huge storm rolled through the entire area and they pulled the plug on the rest of Saturday night.  We ended up hanging out with The Tip in the camp grounds for a bit before heading back into Pryor for some food and air conditioning at a bar called Hookers.  Sunday was early early.  We met Joe Magle and the crew from WCR 247 Radio for breakfast a local dinner and the place came alive as soon as we walked in the door.  It was a scene.  Back at the festival we rushing off to the media tent for what we thought would be a few interviews.  While sitting there Belinda kept calling me.  Not to be rude to the interviewer I didn't pick up.  Finally I answer and she says "I'm about to make your year.  Get your asses to the 2nd stage you guys are opening the entire festival today.  Make us proud and don't fuck it up."  Next thing you know we have all access laminates and these stage hands are loading our gear onto the big boy stage.  Belinda comes rolling around in the golf cart and says to me "After all you guys have been through you deserve this get out there and bring it."  We hardly had a chance to breathe before we hit the stage in front of 1,000+ people and with a brand new drummer, we delivered the goods.  It was like some sort of dream and I couldn't stop smiling.  The lowest of the low that night in KC and now we are playing the 2nd stage at Rocklahoma.  That's the magic of Rock n Roll.  The rest of the day was a blur of pictures, autographs, and laughter.  We packed it up a t 2 AM and pointed the van back towards Nebraska.  We drove all night and made it Monday morning around 9 AM.  We put Jimmy on the Grey Hound back to Chicago and everyone got some much needed shut eye.  The fucking "Road to Rocklahoma", what a ride it was.

I wrote this for all of you at home to let you know how things went out there.  There will be some member changes in the next few weeks for The Midnight Devils but someone very close to me told me "No one is bigger then the band itself."  We will continue, we will have a new record out, and we couldn't do any of this without you.  Thank you to Jimmy Mess, and everyone that made this tour possible.  Without you we are nothing.

End of the Road the Beginning of Another

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official Blog of The Midnight Devils and 3D In Your Face.  So what's been happening?  Sorry it's been so long since the last blog.  As we are getting ready for this new tour to kick off it just seems like I run out of hours in the day to write you.  I wanted to be sure and get at least a quick one in before we left.  Today we are throwing the last big Omaha rock n roll celebration of the "Unrest in the Midwest" Tour as well as our "Road to Rocklahoma" tour send off show.  We are joining forces with our amazing friends, Lincoln, NE guitar driven rock n roll band Laughing Falcon and Omaha hard rock band Our Sovereign Souls for a big party at The Lookout Lounge.  This will be the last local show for a while so come out and make it something for us to remember.  Saturday the final night of this run will be in Winslow, NE at Smileys Bar and if the weather's nice we might even be out under the stars.  As always I will be hosting my show on 101.9 The Keg so please tune in Saturday morning 12am -3am and Saturday night 11pm-12am.

For this blog I don't want to talk to much about the upcoming run of shows that will take us down to Rocklahoma.  I will save that for next week.  I want to wrap up the "Unrest in the Midwest" tour and you know exactly where we came from.  Starting back in Sept. 2016 Sniper and I decided to take the leap of faith and make The Midnight Devils into a full fledged rock n roll band.  We brought in The Playboy on the drums and started rehearsing songs to make a full set.  It was a long shot but the challenge was presented and we went at it full steam ahead.  For the first couple shows we didn't have enough material that I could sing so we enlisted Pat Algire from Shoot to Thrill and Pranxter to basically come in and front the band on songs Sniper or I couldn't sing.  That was very cool of Pat and he saved us on those first few shows.  After that we knew we couldn't sit around and wait for the shows to come to us.  We'd been down that road.  We wanted to travel and play our music on our own terms in every city we could drive to.  We hit the tried and true places we knew would welcome us with open arms like RD's Place in Fremont, NE and The 21st Saloon in Omaha.  Not good enough.  Next thing you know we are in Topeka at The Boobie Trap Bar for Thanksgiving.  We are traveling to St. Joe, MO in an ice storm.  We are hitting Des Moines, IA during the coldest part of the year.  It started to snow ball and we got some momentum.  Most importantly we got out and started meeting people, like minded people that were ready for some high energy boogie woogie rock n roll.

The "Unrest in the Midwest" run of shows from Sept to this week was our trial by fire. Basically we wanted to see how far we could take it.  Now after 8 months we are leaving for our biggest adventure ever and this is exactly what we have been preparing for.  I wish I could name off all of the awesome club owners and promoters that took a chance on us.  For you we are eternally grateful.  Our die hard fans followed us to almost every show.  We played in some of the coolest venues in the midwest and met so many great bands.  Most importantly we played our own dirty boogie woogie heart-and-soul rock n roll songs every night and no one can take that away from us.  There were good nights, there were bad nights, and there were nights that gave me goosebumps.  There were clubs that closed that we will never forget.  There were clubs that we will never make it back to.  Each time we put the van into drive and left Sniper's drive way I knew we were in for some sort of wild adventure.  The stories you wouldn't even believe.  I think we hit ever Casey's gas station within a 100 mile radius of Omaha.  Now coming out the other side and preparing for this big journey I believe we have something unique and exciting under our belts.  The Midnight Devils are a rock n roll band and we will caring on as the great ones did before us.  The blue print is there and we fully intend to follow it.  Write. Tour. Record. Repeat.  Stay humble and always say "please and thank you".  Simple as it gets really.

Staring at a Microphone and Empty Chair

Hello everyone and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official Blog of The Midnight Devils and 3D In Your Face.  It's happening, it's happening.   Just sitting here typing away at 1:45 AM on show day.  Kids take note, if you are going to be playing a big rock n roll show make sure to try and get all eight hours of sleep.  It's not sex, drugs, and rock n roll more like protein bars, a good nights rest, and then rock n roll.  The hardest of the hardcore here.  There is so much going on that I feel like this could come of the tracks at any moment but I say that in a very exciting way.  Tonight The Midnight Devils will be playing our biggest show to date opening for Jackyl at The Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln, NE with our good buddies, Lincoln's greatest rock n roll band Laughing Falcon.  Big room, big sound, and big chainsaw.  Then Saturday we head south to Johnson, NE to celebrate Sniper's birthday with a huge rock n roll bash at Huckleberry's Bar and Grill.  This is going to be one of those weekends you don't forget.  Just wait until you see what I got him for his birthday.  Out of this world.  For those that can't make it to the show there is still plenty of Rock n Roll radio happening.  I am actually on right now, on 101.9 The Keg until 3am.  Also tune in Saturday morning 12am-3am and Saturday night 11pm-12am.

What a day, what a day.  I woke up a little cranky but that's what 8:45 does to me.  My day was full of rock n roll adventures starting at 101.9 The Keg Studios.  As I was doing my shows my boss walked in and said, "Move over I have a very important interview to take care of.  Grab your head phones you are riding copilot on this one."  This always gets interesting.  I grabbed the head phones and it was none other than Mark Slaughter on the other line.  Hello Vinnie Vincent Invasion, Up All Night, Fly to the Angels.  Not so cranky anymore.  The rest of the day was filled with teaching guitar lessons to my amazing students, answering phone calls about tour flyers and t-shirts, and eventually making it to rehearsal.  We ran our set list and made sure everything was tight then we had the chance to take Sniper out for his birthday.  The idea was to take him somewhere he would never go.  Dave and Busters it was.  If you could've seen all three of The Midnight Devils playing arcade games in full leather jackets surrounded by kids you would've died.  It was a blast and a great way to blow off some steam.  I ended the night by heading to what I thought was going to be a performance by Michael Graves of The Misfits.  I got to the show and the first guy I ran into was Billy Peck and he told me Michael wasn't even there yet.  It was just an empty chair on the stage with a microphone.  I proceeded to run into a few local musicians and had a great conversation with the old drummer of The Filter Kings.  I left when it started to rain pretty disappointed.

Now the reason I tell you all of this isn't because I think you need to know what I do on a typical Thursday.  It's for the pure and simple fact that I still get excited everyday by the music.  We all go through personal stuff in our lives that make it hard at times to be every place we need to be.  For Michael Graves to not show up to the show, to not call ahead of time, to leave 100 people standing outside starring at an empty chair blew my mind.  What was he doing?  Why didn't he make it?  If it were me I would have been there three hours early selling t-shirts.  It was a careless move on his part and one that left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.  He's still one of my favorite singers and the work he did with The Misfits is still amazing to this day.  Lesson learned today.  Don't take this for granted.  Let the fire burn and let it burn bright as hell.  I spent my day doing exactly what I love to do and that in itself is fantastic.  Sure I was busy but I was busy pushing The Midnight Devils, busy playing guitar, busy sharpening my radio skills.  The Passion is there and I'm not about to let it fade away.  Some days you think to yourself "Is it worth it?".  My answer is going to be "Fuck yes" every time. No matter what it is guitar, t-shirts, starting your own business, a college degree.  If that's what you want don't let anything stand in your way.  Go out and get it but you better be willing to bust your ass for every inch.  Never leave us standing in the rain wanting to sing your songs.  Rise above.

This Just Might End Up in the Book Someday.

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  It's been a few weeks since the last time I wrote for you.  I truly and sincerely hope everything is going well in your life.  The reason I haven't sat down to write a new blog is because we have been so busy traveling and playing shows.  It's been so amazing to get out on the open road and see so many great people along the way.  Let me be the first guy to tell you not all the shows have been great but I would say at least 75% have been blow out rock n roll parties.  Even the shows that aren't the best always end up being special to me because of the love and support you, or fans, show us week in and week out.  I want to start this blog by saying thank you to all of you that have traveled to see us perform.  You don't realize how amazing it makes us feel to see a familiar face in an unfamiliar town.  Tonight The Midnight Devils will be playing a private party so for all of you Devil Heads rest up we will be in Des Moines next Friday at Hull Avenue Tavern for a free show.  Then we will be playing Carroll, IA next Saturday night at The Piranha Club.  3D In Your Face is back in action this Saturday, April 1st.  That National Rugby Tournament will be coming to Wayne, NE and we are the official after-party band for the whole tournament.  Our party starts at 9:45 at Riley's Bar and Grill and you officially can't even enter the building unless you are wearing a toga.  I don't make the rules.  Even if you aren't brave enough to party with 1,000 toga clad college kids you can still get your fix by listening to me on 101.9 The Keg.  I will be on Saturday morning 12 AM -3 AM and again Saturday night at 11 PM for my show also called HAIR IN THE AIR.

This week was very special for me.  I had the opportunity to do some things and see some things that I never thought I would get to in my lifetime.  Sometimes you get so bogged down with work, school, family, and life that you forget about the beautiful things all around you.  You forget about the people, and the relationships that form the framework of your whole entire life.  Since I've now started doing the booking for The Midnight Devils I constantly find myself looking ahead in the calendar planning shows months and months in advance.  I completely forget that there is a unique and amazing world happening right in front of me.  I spend so much of my time staring at a computer or staring at my phone that when I finally get the opportunity to unplug myself it absolutely blows my mind.  This whole big thing we are going through each and every day really simply comes down to living in the moment.  Experiencing even the smallest things and appreciating them for what they are. Today I got to listen to my radio boss interview a very very famous drummer.  All I was allowed to do was sit in the studio with my head phones on and listen.  It totally blew my mind.  Who else gets to do stuff like this.  16 year old me would have been freaking out.  I find so much unexplainable beauty in music, in art, and in nature.  I love playing rock n roll music more than anything in the world but I also love looking at the stars on a country road, watching the sunset in a different time zone, and seeing that creative spark captured on a piece of canvas.

I may not always be the wildest, or the bravest, or the coolest guy out there but I take pride in knowing that no matter what happens on the weekend we always come back to Omaha with some of the best stories.  It's about finding your adventure.  It's about taking the path less traveled and making those unforgettable memories.  If you take the chance and fail at least you can say you gave it your best shot.  If you never even take the chance who knows what could have happened.  I got into rock n roll music because of that one little tiny spark that made me feel different that everyone else in my 8th grade class.  Those songs made me feel alive and gave me a reason to push myself.  In the beginning I was looking for fun, new experiences, new people, new cities, new friends, and I've gotten all of that back and more in return.  To this day when we leave town I'm always wondering what ridiculous adventure are we going to end up on this time around.  It's never dull that's for sure.  Life is about the stories we take away from the good times, from the bad times, and from the in between times.  Today I feel more alive than ever and I haven't even plugged in my guitar yet.  I'm ready for anything you can throw at me just know if it's that bad it's probably going to go into the book later down the line.

Twisted as Hell Pt. 2 - Interview with John Hennis.

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  I meant to get this thing out last week but I completely ran out of time.  Things have been happening so fast it's tough to get a minute to sit down and collect my thoughts.  This weekend is huge and we are very excited to be bringing you some amazing shows, not to mention today we are celebrating my birthday and St. Patty's Day.  Tonight The Midnight Devils will be opening for "Rock of Ages" the musical at The Omaha Community Playhouse.  We will begin playing around 6 PM in the corridor to the theatre and we will play right up until 7:30 when they open the doors.  Saturday night we are heading back down south to St. Joe, MO for a big rock n roll riot with Coverboy at The 'Vous.  Show starts around 10PM.  Also if you can't make any of these shows please keep it tuned to 101.9 The Keg all weekend.  I will be hanging out live with Crash Davis this morning as he does his St. Patty's Day Beer and Breakfast party at The Brick Street Tavern in Omaha.  I will also be doing Saturday morning on The Keg 12 AM - 3 PM and my show Hair In The Air Saturday night at 11 PM.  There's a ton of rock n roll mayhem happening and you just have to be apart of it.

Last week I talked to you about The Twisted Diamond, a sacred place in Topeka KS.  It's a rock n roll/hair metal/glam rock museum located in John Hennis' basement.  John runs security at The Boobie Trap Bar and has one of the coolest places I've ever seen.  For guys like us it's a little slice of heaven away from home.  Here is our tribute to John for taking us under his wing and become a good friend.  Enjoy the interviews and the pictures.

Twisted As Hell Pt. 1

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official Blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  I'm sorry I missed last week.  This tour has got us working our asses off and I ran out of time during the week to get my thoughts in order.  We had an absolute blast in Brandon, SD at Double D's Saloon.  The great people there treated us amazingly and we can't wait to come back.  Sioux City was a thrill to say the least.  The Filling Station was an amazing setting for this giant rock n roll reunion.  Can you believe it had been almost two years since we played in Sioux City?  See all of you again was exactly what the doctor ordered.  Trust me we wont wait that long to come back again.  This week I want to try and do something very special.  Before we get into the nuts and bolts there are a lot of great things happening this week in our word.  Tonight we have the amazing honor of playing at The Legendary Boobie Trap Bar in Topeka, KS.  This will be our second trip on this tour to one of Topeka's finest rock n roll establishments.  We've got a few miles under our belts and we are out for blood this time.  Saturday we head back to Fremont, NE for a wild rock n roll party at Tin Lizzy's Tavern.  Fremont happens to be my home town and it's getting closer to my birthday.  Get ready to party.  On the radio front, I will be doing an over night shift on 101.9 The Keg tonight at midnight and then my normal show also called HAIR IN THE AIR will be one at 11 PM CST.  If you can't make the shows at least tune in and get your fix over the air.

As I said earlier we are heading back to Topeka, KS for a big rock n roll party at The Legendary Boobie Trap Bar.  We hit up this historic landmark back near Thanksgiving of 2016 on the first leg of this tour.  The big thing for all of us was not only the fantastic people we met but a little unknown place called The Twisted Diamond located in a the security guard, John's basement.  An avid Twisted Sister fan, John has turned his basemen,t now know as The Twisted Diamond into a hair metal museum.  It's paradise for glam rockers the world over.  My goal is to capture just a little bit of the magic and report back to you.  This story needs to be told.  Funny enough, back when we released The Midnight Devils album in 2013 I was shopping around for radio interviews to promote the new album.  I came across a Internet podcast called Bleach Bangs that was right up our alley.  I emailed and messaged and got a big fat nothing in return.  Four years later in Topeka I run into John and learn he was a host of Bleach Bangs.  I was like "What the hell man?"   No hard feelings but I think it's time we turn the tide on John and sit him down for an interview at The Twisted Diamond.  My college radio skills are totally coming in handy this weekend.  Sorr to cut this blog short but my goal is to report back to you Saturday with the second part of this blog. Until then keep spreading the word.  The Midnight Devils tour is almost full and we wont rest until Rocklahoma.

What Will Your Actions Say?

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  Gearing up for another wild weekend and of course it snows like crazy all night.  No worries on our part.  There is nothing that can stop us from playing tonight's 21st Saloon Tribute Show at Sneaky Pete's Saloon in Omaha, NE.  It's been almost a month since we last played Omaha and the last place we played was of course The 21st Saloon.  We were devastated to see it go like everyone else but it's time to move on and remember all the good times we had there.  That's exactly what we are doing tonight at Sneaky Pete's.  We can't wait to see some familiar faces and this will be the first time we ever played with The Playboy at this bar.  I don't have to tell you how this is going to go down.  Saturday we are heading back west across the state to a bar that welcomed us with open arms back in July.  Get ready for a very special night of boogie woogie rock n roll at The Glass Bar in Grand Island, NE.  This is one of the coolest bars in central Nebraska and the basement/our dressing room is supposedly haunted.  I will try and get video proof for you.  I will be doing lots more radio this week with another show tonight/Saturday morning from 12 AM to 3 AM and my radio show also called Hair in the Air on Saturday night at 11 PM all on 101.9 The Keg.

Things are going very well for The Midnight Devils and that makes my job a little easier.  We have been traveling a ton hitting up towns north, south, east, and west of Omaha.  That's the one thing that makes me happy, we are finally getting out and spreading our wings.  Preaching the good word to the great people of Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and soon South Dakota.  Our summer dates are starting to fill up and we only have about 8 more available dates until August.  Right now we are looking for a show in central Iowa, April 8th.  We also have April 14th and 15th available but not for long.  I feel so lucky that we get to hit the open highway every weekend and see people that we normally didn't get to see but once a year.  It's still exciting and it's still fun.  You never really know what you are getting into but you know there's going to be some great stories along the way.  Just wait until I start writing my book.  Our show schedule has been updated as of Wednesday and is available here.  Keep spreading the word because we can't do all of this without your help.

I wanted to address something but I wasn't really sure how to make this negative thing into a positive, so kind of read between the lines.  We as a band are relatively quiet on our social media pages and that is definitely intentional.  Unless it relates directly to the band or public appearances we don't post  it.  There are so many terrible things being said on Facebook and Twitter and if someone reads a post made by one of the guys in the band and doesn't agree with you the entire band comes off looking like a bunch of assholes.  It's pretty simple and we have had tons of conversations about this "don't alienate your audience by what you say on social media."  More importantly who has the time to focus on negativity when there are shows to be booked, emails to be sent, and songs to written.  It really comes down to priorities and putting your money where your mouth is.  In order to move forward and achieve the our goals we must first remove that "attack mentality".  Sure there are plenty of things I see on the Internet that I don't like or don't agree with but on the other side of the coin there are people that disagree with me and my outlook.  If I went after ever person I disagreed with than I would be no better off than I was before I started.  Go ahead and make your point on religion, politics, music but honestly how many times have you had that conversation with a person and changed their minds.  Never.  The focus needs to shift to taking care of business and progressing in a positive light.  Let your actions speak louder than your words.

The Best is Yet To Come - OEAA Bound

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  Could this be two blogs in a row?  For you my friends, anything.  The Midnight Devils have been hitting the road pretty hard the last few weeks.  We would like to thank the great people of Kearney for an amazing time and the private party in Chapman, NE totally blew us away.  That was a show were we new absolutely nobody and they welcomed us into their family with open arms.  Now I know it's been a while since we've been home or in the area so for some of you the only way to stay in touch is with this blog.  I am trying to be more diligent with my writing.  Tonight we head out again to Benevolent Studios in Hamburg, IA, just 45 miles south of Omaha and I-29.  We will be teaming up with Omaha punk rock legends Cordial Spew who have been slinging skate inspired punk rock anthems since the 80's.  Not to mention my AA sponsor happens to be their lead singer Jay Bacon.  Saturday we head to Lincoln, NE to a bar that has become our unofficial home Gray's Keg Saloon.  For this show we have PolyFaze opening up the festivities around 8:30 PM.  For the biggest news of all we have the first official The Midnight Devils t-shirts available in sizes S-2XL but we only have 35 so supplies are very limited.  We will have a link available as soon as the graphics come in from the designer.  As for the upcoming tour dates I should have everything update by the end of the weekend.  There are only a small amount of dates left going into August.  Right now we are looking for a show March 3rd and 17th and April 7th and 8th.  Watch for a massive summer concert announcement coming very soon.  Last but not least, I can't quite spill the beans yet but I am doing some overnight voice tracking on 101.9 The Keg in addition to my regular Saturday night show HAIR IN THE AIR.  If you missed this mornings show from 12 AM -3 AM tune in tonight at 12 AM again and catch my overnight shift.  The wheels are in motion.

This week 3D In Your Face is so honored to be heading back to the Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards Ceremony on Sunday night.  This year we are actually closing the evening with an explosive celebration of "In Your Face" rock n roll.  I don't want to write the same blog I write every year but honestly I always think of this as one of the biggest honors a band from Omaha can get.  A nomination by our fans to represent them in front of the rest of the Omaha arts community.  It's a privilege and we don't take that lightly.  It's not about us this award has always been about you, our loyal fans, friends, and family.  The best part about this years OEAA experience has been the great friends we've already made along the way.  From the other great bands, to the promoters, to the talent, and the organizers I can safely say I'm proud as hell to be from this great state.  The first few times we lost the award I was absolutely torn up but I tried to keep it in check.  This year I already feel like I won the lottery, no trophy needed.  On top of all of this craziness, The Midnight Devils will be out for two nights and cap the weekend of with an award ceremony rock n roll bash.  That right there is the reason we keep going out for more.

I want to thank personally thank everyone that got us to this point.  I don't say it nearly enough but thank you to our fans for being the light in an often dark place, thank you to our families for being there even when we are off traveling around the country side,  thank you to all of you that have taken a chance on us and talked us through the rough patches.  That we can never repay.  I feel blessed and even as I write this I am smiling.  There's still a long road ahead of us.  There are a lot of things to get done, a lot of shows to book, a video to shoot, a trip to Rocklahoma, a new tour to plan, and a new album to write.  I know that with all of you standing in our corner pushing us forward we can accomplish these goals we have set out for ourselves.  I truly believe that the very best is yet to come.

Here's To You and Here's To The 21st Saloon

Hello everybody and welcome to Hair in the Air, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  I want to apologize for missing last weeks blog.  Things were quite crazy and we were all trying to sort out what to do next after the closing of our home bar The 21st Saloon, but I will get to that later.  The Midnight Devils are beyond excited and ready to hit the road later today.  It seems we do the best when the van is full of gear and we are cruising with the radio on.  Tonight we will be making our debut at Nick's on the Bricks in our "home away from home", Kearney, NE.  I already know this is going to be a wild rock n roll party and we can't wait to see all of our Kearney friends and family.  It has been way to long.  Saturday was originally scheduled for Groovy's Pub in Oakland, NE but due to some unforeseen circumstances the show was rescheduled to Friday, May 5th.  Instead we got offered a private party in Chapman, NE on Saturday and it will be quite an honor for us to play this party.  Please don't forget to listen to my radio show on Saturday night also called Hair in the Air, on 101.9 The Keg.  I can't divulge the information yet that I want to but because you people are always so great to me I can tell you that I'm working on something really cool and it has to do with rock n roll radio.  Don't ask because I can't tell and I don't want to jinx it.  Just keep sending your good vibes my way.

So the big news last week that took the Omaha music community by storm was the sudden closing of The 21st Saloon.  I promised myself this would not be a negative blog but a tribute to everything that Scott Kirk and The 21st Saloon stood for.  We started playing The 21st Saloon almost six years ago.  I remember being sober at the time we got the gig and I was still the guitar tech and stage manager for 3D In Your Face.  I remember getting on stage to play Thunderstuck, running out into the audience, jumping on a rolling chair, and the whole thing slipping out from underneath me.  Luckily it was somebody's birthday and their cupcake table broke my fall.  Frosting everywhere.  The 21st Saloon was a bar unlike any I have ever been to and I doubt anything like it will take it's place.  Scott and his amazing staff believed in the music, the blues, and the rock n roll so heavily up until that very last day.  Scott, Sniper, and I talked often about only bringing in quality bands with heart and soul because the people would be able to spot the wanna-be's.  It was a bar built on a reputation of great live music, guaranteed.  We played over 160 shows there with 3D In Your Face and without The 21st Saloon there wouldn't be The Midnight Devils.  Scott gave us a chance and place to realize our dreams.  I met so many amazing people that I love dearly to this day at this bar.  At the end of the last 3D In Your Face residency it had become a family affair.  Every Friday we would all gather to celebrate life, love, and rock n roll.  I know this bar meant as much to you as it did to us.

With all that being put out on the table, I am a firm believer that The 21st Saloon closing happened for a reason bigger than just money.  Most of the time these reasons are never clear and you're always asking yourself "I don't understand why something like this would happen."  I was floored and heartbroken last week but I just kept saying "we are moving to bigger and better.  Don't let it stray you from the course."  Last week we ended up losing three gigs.  This week I was pretty down but still pushing on cold calling any bar within 500 miles of Kearney.  Out of the blue a guy called me about a private party that is routed perfectly for the trip.  I was so excited I was dancing up and down in my apartment, just the cat and I.  Later that night we landed a gig in Carrol, IA on our trip to Des Moines next month.  Then we confirmed with Sneaky Pete's in Omaha to pick up our lost 21st Saloon show on Feb. 24th.  I just looked at my cat in disbelief and said "I told you everything happens for a reason."  Sure we don't know the plan and we are mostly just along for the ride but it's so amazing to see bad things turn around into great things.  The rest of the week I've felt pretty inspired and grateful as hell.  I said it on a Facebook post but this business never ceases to amaze me.  It's very fluid and goes this way and that way and you never really know what to expect.  What I have learned is that if you put in the hard work, pay your dues, and do everything from the heart it will always come back to you positively in the end.  I always push to go that extra step and do the things that other bands in our position wouldn't do.  Whatever it takes.  Unanswered messages and phone calls are just "yes's" later on down the line.

15 minutes isn't just 15 minutes anymore.

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official Blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  Time to hit the dusty for a little adventure on the road.  We would like to thank everyone that came out to support our first hometown show of 2017 last week at The 21st Saloon.  We had a blast and it was fantastic seeing all your smiling faces.  Welcome to the party.  Tonight we head off to Broken Bow, NE for a Midnight Devils debut at Sylvester's Bar.  A few years back 3D In Your Face use to frequent this fantastic small town bar and now it's time to rekindle that flame.  If I only could remember the wild times we used to have I might have an interesting book someday.  Saturday we cruise back across the state to Plattsmouth, NE for a very special acoustic show at DC's Waterhole.  I say this every time we head back to DC's, but this bar was one of very first stops on the very first tours The Midnight Devils ever did.  They gave us a chance and we've made it a point to come back on every run since we started.  You know it's going to be one of those kind of nights.  Don't forget to listen to my radio show Saturday night also called HAIR IN THE AIR on 101.9 The Keg.  Just between you and I, there might be a big announcement coming up regarding my radio show.  It's all good news.  Just because I love you for being amazing wonderful people I will give you a big concert announcement as well.  3D In Your Face has been asked to come back to JD's in Kearney, NE for Cruise Night on July 15th.  You want fun?  We bring the fun.  Get ready for a great summer.

I've got a very inspirational blog for you today.  I wanted to write about something that I have been trying to work on in The Midnight Devils and 3D In Your Face.  I've had the pleasure of taking some great advice about motivation and staying inspired.  This is a tough lesson that I think I go through everyday.  What am I going to do today that is going to forward my progress or the progress of the band?  What can I accomplish today that is going to get me to the next level?  It's not all about the big things like booking shows or making contacts.  The small things add up to make the big things even better.  Today I started a great partnership with an apparel company in Omaha that is hopefully going to be creating all the new Midnight Devils and 3D In Your Face merchandise.  We had an amazing rehearsal this evening and we added a song or two to our set list.  I feel confident that this weekend is going to be great from a musical standpoint.  The hardest part for me is that sometimes I let my emotions dictate my actions.  I let the thoughts running through my head get in the way of accomplishing the work that needs to be done.  As a human being it's almost impossible to not let your emotions get the best of you.  The trick realizing it's happening and how to pull ourselves out?  To overcome the fact that our minds are telling us it would be easier to give up and do nothing than to put in the effort needed to accomplish our goals.

I'm not saying all of this because I am giving you some important life direction.  I am merely getting it out in the open to remind myself that failure isn't an option.  The dream begins and ends right here.  If we aren't out there pushing ourselves on the road or in the rehearsal room than we aren't progressing to the next level.  If one club doesn't respond back to our booking messages than there are 20 other clubs that we will message.  One might bite and we will bust our asses putting on a hell of a performance for the club that actually took a chance on us.  It's the commitment on our part not to do anything halfway.  That all starts the second I wake up and my brain says roll back over you can get 15 more minutes of sleep.  It's so easy to take that road but today I have to mail CD's and t-shirts across the state, teach guitar lessons, send out 5 booking emails, rehearse, learn lyrics, and rent a van.  Not even complaining a little because I know exactly what I signed up for and I love every minute of it.  The hardest part is reconditioning your brain to think that there are a million amazing reason to wake up in the morning.  There are chances, victories, and opportunities that might pass you by if you let your emotions get the best of you.  Break the cycle and go get that thing that makes you happy, even if everyone else is telling you it's impossible.  Don't let it slip away because you didn't give it everything you had.
