Reckless and Careless but That's What Made It Real

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  Well it seems our little rock n roll club is getting bigger and bigger.  That makes me very excited.  It's time to round up the troops for one more big rock n roll blast into 2016.  I have to say this year was great.  Sniper and I spent more time out on the road than we did at home.  That's always a good thing.  I never unpacked my suitcase once, maybe some rearranging but never fully unpacked.  We met some amazing people.  Most importantly we reconnected with one our best friends The Playboy.  I've seen a few thousand faces and better damn well believe we rocked them all.  Now it's time to kick back and party, celebrate, and get ready for the next round.  If you didn't already know tonight 3D In Your Face kicks off the first of a two night stand at The 21st Saloon, Omaha, NE.  Friday, Dec. 30th and Saturday, Dec. 31st will go down in infamy as the two greatest nights in our bands career.  Our crew has assembled what can only be described as the hottest video wall in the city.  This shows is going to blow you out of the water and I don't want to just rely on the show.  We are ready to bring the pain and show everyone else how the big boys do it.  Down and dirty sleazy rock n roll magic is in the air.  Only $5 at the door tonight.  There are still tickets left for tomorrow's show and today only you can still get them for $5.  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/30242616480?aff=efbneb On Saturday they are bumped up to $8 so order these now and reserve yourself and your date a seat to the party of the year.

For all of those traveling to these shows and for all of you that might not want to drink and drive afterward we have partnered with The New Victorian Inn and Suites on 108th and L street, blocks away from The 21st Saloon.  Mention "3D In Your Face" at the front desk during check in or check out and receive your room for only $69.99 plus tax.  This will apply for Friday and Saturday.  Always thinkin' about ya.

I want to take you back a few years.  I always look forward to New Years Eve.  It's one of those crazy crazy crazy nights that you just never really know what's going to happen.  It's one of those nights you talk about with your friends for years.  Inevitably drunken buffoonery is in store no matter if you are drinking or not.  I can't really remember the exact date but I want to warn my mother if she is reading this, please just close out of your browser now.  I had to be about 19 or 20 years old and I was hanging out with a pretty wild bunch of dudes.  We had just formed our first band and we were regularly making trips back and forth to Omaha to catch punk rock shows at houses, studios, and the infamous Ranch Bowl.  That New Years Eve we caught wind of an art studio hosting a punk rock show that featured our two favorite Omaha bands at the time.  The Deformites were some dudes our age that played psychobilly music.  My band eventually did a tour to Texas and back with The Deformities but we will save that story for another blog.  The other band was a drunk punk band called Buster Hymen and The Penetrators.  Great dudes that kind of showed us the ropes.  We looked up to them big time.  I believe 4 of us made the trip to Omaha that night.  My buddy Duff was the DD and were were cruising a brand new Ford Mustang courtesy of my other buddy and legal age drinker Styx.  My friend Korey was riding in back with me and I think we were half in the can before we even crossed the county line.

The art studio was unlike anything we had ever seen in Fremont.  It was downtown and this was some unique art.  Old cars welded together, metal shapes and jagged edges, and as luck would have it a free keg.  We payed the admission and partied our asses off that night.  Things get a little hazy for me right here.  I seem to remember my buddy Styx being so out of his mind that he proceeded to go after a woman that appeared to be three times his age.  This punk rock art studio became heaven for us for that evening.  Free food, free beer, women that wouldn't even look at us, and loud happening rock n roll music.  I'm sure my friends will remember way more details than I do but I can still picture the smell of cigarettes and stale beer just brought us to life.  This had become the only place in the entire world that really mattered.  For that moment in time we were kings.  The show ended and we scooped our drunk asses back in the Mustang and Duff safely drove us home.  We almost made the trip without incident until we got back to Fremont.  We drove through downtown Fremont and pretty much right on time as we were driving past the court house Styx's car door flung open and he started spewing onto the passing concrete and all down the side of his car.  Stick a fork in us that was the point we all needed to head home and sleep it off.  For whatever reason that show sticks out in my mind as one of the funnest times of my young adult life.  We were reckless and careless but because of the music it all made so much sense.  I would never want to go back to that time but I'm sure happy I did it when I had the chance.  That moment in time.  Those hazy memories.  The music.

Happy New Year

There's Leftovers in the Fridge

Hello everybody and welcome to the Christmas edition of HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official Blog of The Midnight Devils and 3D In Your Face.  I want to start this blog off by thanking everyone that sent us well wishes on our trip last weekend.  The Midnight Devils are definitely earning our wings the hard way.  After the great ice trek to St. Joe we pushed on to Odell, NE.  The roads weren't the best but we made it safe and sound and had an amazing show.  It's the small things.  We were sitting around deciding whether or not to cancel Saturday's gig.  Sniper and I simply said there is no way we are not going to make a show.  We are going to be known as the band that's at every show no matter what.  First ones in and the last ones to leave.  Since it's Christmas season and the end of this leg of our tour we are doing one final homecoming show tonight at The 21st Saloon in Omaha, NE.  One last chance to catch The Midnight Devils in 2016.  I have a huge surprise for everyone as well.  Rock n Roll Santa came early this year.  Please come out and celebrate the holiday's with us one last time.  We've been gone for about a month and we can't wait to see you.  Not to mention this is going to be one wild party.  No work, no school, it's Christmas baby let's boogie
Photos by David Willis Photography

Now for the good stuff.  I've been writing this blog now for roughly five years.  Week in and week out I usually try and do something special, something out of the ordinary, a glimpse into my life.  Christmas is one of those holiday's that I look forward to every year.  The bad thing is I can't remember writing last year's Christmas blog.  I love being home for the holiday's.  Sleeping in the old band rehearsal room.  Staying out late with my friends back home.  Hanging with my parents.  It always amazes me how quiet my hometown is.  I never remember it being that quiet.  All the towns we visit we are so loud all the time that the silence around 2 AM strikes me in Fremont, NE.  No cars, no music, and no drunk people.  It's fantastic.  My family is huge on tradition.  We do the same thing every year like clockwork since my grandparents were alive.  My Step-Mom Beth even buys the same spaghetti sauce my grandmother used to use off Amazon because they can't find it anywhere else.  Giant family gatherings like that are always great, they are stressful but great.  That's why we only do them a few times a year.  We then all go to the candlelight Midnight Mass and listen to my Step-Dad Greg rumble the church with the pipe organ.  It's beautiful.  I even put on a shirt with sleeves for the church service.  Then my buddies all get together and close out one of the local bars.  Clockwork I say.

Being in a rock n roll band, for us holiday's are just as important.  Most of the time we are playing on a holiday but there are a few really special nights we get off.  It's one of the rare times you aren't consumed with practice, social media, booking gigs, and handing out flyers.  You can be "off" for at least 24 hours.  The coolest thing is that you get a chance to celebrate with your best friends, not that you don't celebrate everything else together when you're crammed in a van with them for a month.  It's a little more special than that.  We get to cut loose and enjoy the end of a tour and the end of a great year.  I never in a million years would have thought we would be ending 2016 like this.  3D In Your Face has accomplished some huge goals we set out for ourselves.  We have pushed it farther them the year before.  The Midnight Devils are in that great place where we are slowly gaining momentum.  We took the leap and now it's starting to pay off.  Just wait until you see what we have coming down the road.  Christmas in a rock n roll band to me is about Elvis Presley singing "Blue Christmas".   It's getting home from a string of shows and throwing your dirty stage clothes in your parents washing machine.  The pullout bed is ready to roll and there are leftovers in the fridge.  From everyone in 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils we would like to wish you a Merry Christmas.  If you can't spend it with someone you love you better be on the phone letting them know you are thinking about them.

Traveling Musician PT. 1 - Icy Conditions Cancels Show

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of The Midnight Devils and 3D In Your Face.  What an adventure we had last night.  I didn't get around to writing the blog before we left for the weekend and I'm glad I didn't.  Now I will give you a first hand look at what it was like for us on 120 mile sheet of ice in Northern Missouri.  Before we get into the details at this exact moment we are still scheduled to play tonight at The Kross-Eyed Kricket in Odell, NE.  All things considered this is going to be one wild night and I know you are looking forward to some craziness after all the stress.  Show will begin roughly at 9 PM.  Sunday we are doing a very special benefit show at The Lookout Lounge with Aorta Music Management.  Wreck The Halls is a two day benefit to raise money for Harper's Hope and Inner Beauty Salon at The Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE.  A few years back I stumbled upon a hair salon for cancer survivors.  This is one of the coolest places in Omaha if you want my opinion.  They help survivors with wigs and beauty therapy.  We are always thrilled to help out Inner Beauty Salon and look forward to an amazing night of action at The Lookout Lounge.  My radio show also called Hair in the Air, on 101.9 The Keg will be bumped back to 12 AM tonight because of the Creighton game.  Tune in live and get your faced rocked off.

If you are just catching up with us than I will start from the beginning.  Last night The Midnight Devils were schedule to play in St. Joe, MO at The Rendezsous Bar with Coverboy.  I would also like to thank John Riha of Disciples of Apollo Promotions and our amazing fans that braved the weather for all their help.  What started as 120 Mile down 1-29 problem on any other night.  Let me preface this by saying we have never cancelled a show ever.  We picked up the van around 1 PM and I knew there was going to be some bad weather.  We  was figured on it would only stay in Omaha and that things would get better as we headed south.  We loaded up the van and hit the road by 2:15 PM.  Heading out of Omaha the roads were starting to get wet but we pushed on into the unknown.  Out on the interstate the rain never let up and 50 miles down the road we made our first stop in Rock Port, MO and we knew we were in for some rough times ahead.  All the concrete had turned into a sheet of ice.  Inside the truck stop travelers were talking about how traffic had come to a stand still on the interstate right outside of St. Joe due to an accident.  At this point what were we supposed to do?  The show was still on and we were already halfway there.  We saddled up and cruised low and slow.  About 10 miles from our exit we hit the stand still.  For an hour everyone just sat there on the interstate.  It was about that time that we got word that roads in St. Joe were so bad that they had no choice but to cancel the show.  We were devastated but there was nothing we could do.  We took the first exit off the interstate which lead us down a dark road that was littered with semi-trucks and cars in the ditch.  By the skin of our teeth we swung the van around and made it back onto the interstate.  Another few miles down the road we, along with hundreds of other drivers, crash landed at a gas station that was not equipped for this many people.  With one bathroom inside we filled up the tank, grabbed a few snacks, used natures bathroom and pointed the van back north towards Omaha.

Sniper took over driving duties for this leg of the trip.  What was only supposed to take an hour and half landed us another three hours in the van.  It was slow going and with nerves of steel he had the van moving closer to 50 mph the whole trip back to Omaha.  After 8 long hours in the van we finally landed safe and sound in Omaha, a bit defeated but everyone was in one piece.  We found out later that the crash that had backed up the interstate near St. Joe had killed two people and injured 9 others.  That was weighing pretty heavily on our minds as our trip concluded for the evening.  Now this story isn't anything special or different.  There are bands all over the country that are braving terrible road conditions every night to make the gig.  It's something that you do and don't even think about.  Every year we go through a few shows were you secretly wonder if it's worth the stress to even be out on the road.  It sucks but it's part of the job.  You knew what you were signing up for at the beginning of this.  Every band has those stories of white knuckling it on a dark interstate trying to get back from a show.  Most importantly we didn't want to let any of our fans down by cancelling a show.  The song actually goes "It's a long way to the top if you want to Rock N Roll".  After last night I'd like to change it to "It's an icy way to St. Joe if you want to Rock N Roll".  This is still the greatest job in the world and I wouldn't change it for a minute.

"Sam I Had No Idea......"

Hello everybody and welcome back to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  Am I every ready to get this party started.  I would like to start off this blog by thank you all again for reading this every week.  It's taking on a life of it's own and I couldn't do any of that without you.  Thanks for sticking in my corner through the thick and the thin.  We are taking a bit of a road trip this week to a city we haven't played in a few years.  The Midnight Devils are hitting the road as part of our "Unrest in the Midwest" tour with two shows in the wonderful city of Des Moines, IA.  I've had some wild adventures in Des Moines but more on that later to come.  I would like to thank DJ Bob at Code Zero Radio for the great interview today.  If you are just reading this Friday morning don't miss my live interview at 8:50 AM on Moose in the Morning Show on Lazer 103.3.  Tonight we will be playing a full tilt mega beast glam slam rock n roll party at Misfits Bar in East Des Moines.   Show starts roughly at 8 PM and expect a wild wild evening.  I can already feel the vibrations down below.  Saturday we will be sticking around Des Moines and meeting up with LyinHeart and The Astro Bastards for a tag team triple threat match at The Fremont Bar.  This show is being put on by the amazing Dominick Derringer of Krazy1 Productions.  We can't wait to see you wild people this weekend.  Last but not least my own radio show Hair In The Air will be airing now at 11 PM Saturday's on 101.9 The Keg.  Tune in and get rocked.

Des Moines how I miss you, let me count the ways.  The first real adventure I remember about heading to the capital city of Iowa was on the very first Officially Terminated Tour when we were 19 or 20.  Back then nobody was carrying a cell phone with GPS on it.  So I used my parents computer and printed out the entire 10 day tour route via Mapquest, which was inevitably always wrong.  I had a three ring binder with all the directions.  We loaded up our old church van for a solid week plus of touring.  The first night was schedule in Des Moines and I had hooked up with a punk rock promoter that was booking The Backyard Babies at a place called Hairy Mary's.  Some how I convinced him to let us open the show.  Now The Backyard Babies are one of those legendary Swedish bands that brought good rock n roll back in the early 2000's.  They are huge and we were opening for them first night of our tour.  We got to the club and they wouldn't let us even set up on the stage.  We had to play on the floor in front of the stage.  It didn't really even matter we were just happy to be there and happy to not be heading home anytime soon.  The show was outstanding but I can't remember a ton of people being there.  The promoter who also happened to be the bar tender felt bad for us and paid us with his tips at the end of the night.  We had no place to stay and no where to be so we asked The Backyard Babies who were riding in a tour bus if we could crash in their hotel rooms.  Silly silly silly.  Not a chance.  We followed them to the Holiday Inn and attempted to sneak into their after party which again did not happen.  We decided the next best thing was to stay in the parking lot for the evening.

Here is where things get a bit interesting.  Whenever I tell this story to my mom she just cringes and screams "Sam I had no idea that's what you guys were doing out there."  In the parking lot of the Holiday Inn where the headliners were staying we posted up camp.  We gathered the chairs and coolers and proceeded to get entirely wasted while listening to music.  Cigarettes, beer, liquor, the whole works.  We were on tour after all.  As everyone started to pass out we soon realized there wasn't enough room for us all to sleep in the van.  Maybe it was the liquor or maybe it was the adventure but we dragged out the sleeping bags and made our beds in the grass, on-top of the van, and even underneath the van.  As morning set it and the breakfast crowd started to file in, the hotel management soon realized they had a bunch of vagrants sleeping in their parking lot.  5 AM hangover still fresh they kicked us out.  We drove a few blocks down parked the van in front of somebody's house and crawled back into the grass to finish off getting a few more zzzz's.  It was dangerous and insane but honest and pure and that's what made it so good.  I can't remember where we went after that but I know every place we played, if we didn't find a place to crash we were sleeping like hillbillies outside of the van.  I don't expect that magnitude of intensity this weekend but it's sure going to be nice getting back to a city with so many great memories.  Time to start a new chapter in the book.

Twisted To The End

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official Blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  What's happening this week?  Sorry I missed last weeks blog.  Things just got a bit out of control with Thanksgiving.  The Midnight Devils hit the road pretty hard over the holiday weekend and I didn't get a chance to sit down and write to you fine fine people.  Things are looking very promising for the few weeks leading up to the new year.  We have a lot of show bookings starting to come in.  Next week we head to Des Moines, IA on Saturday, Dec. 10th for a Krazy1 Promotions big Rock n Roll party at The Fremont Bar with LyinHeart, Herman and the Hulks, and The Astrobastards.  We are still looking for a show for Friday, Dec. 9th.  If anyone can help us out with a place to play or can point us in the right direction for a show that we would really appreciate it.  As for this weekend we are taking a quick break and then back on board the Rock n Roll roller coaster until 2017.  Most importantly right now is the brand new music video for the 3D In Your Face single "Baptized by the Radio" from our latest album Lost in the Volume.  Click HERE!.  We are so very proud of this new music video and we would like to thank Jeremy Partridge for all the amazing work he does on our music videos.  Our goal is to hit 10,000 views by 2017 and we can't do that without your help.  Please like, share, and spread this video around the Internet.  This video is for you the one and only reason we do everything we do.  We hope you enjoy.

I have to say things are going very well.  I believe the shows are getting better and The Midnight Devils are become a natural cohesive unit.  We did our first lengthy road trip last weekend to Topeka, KS and it was all dick and fart jokes for three hours in the van.  That's a good sign that a band is happy.  We arrived in town early and met up with the head of security at The Boobie Trap Bar, John.  Now we were told by the owner that John had a hair metal museum in his basement that we just had to see.  Turns out John's basement looks a lot similar to our homes back in Nebraska.  Every wall was covered with show memorabilia, KISS merch, vinyl album covers.  We became instant friends.  I've said this from day one but there is an amazing glam rock/sleaze metal community spread out over the entire world and the moment you get two or more of the in a room it becomes family real fast.  John's basement is called The Twisted Diamond and for any band traveling through the Topeka area it's a destination not to be missed.  From that moment I knew we were going to have a fun night at Topeka surely did not disappoint.  We met some amazing people that will stick in my mind forever.

I'm a firm believer that people come in and out of your life for a reason.  There is no coincidence.  Through 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils we have gotten the chance to meet some absolutely wonderful people.  People I call friends and people I call family.  That's the best part about this job is that we get the opportunity to travel and see our friends from the other side of the country on a regular basis.  I have so many great memories and I know we are going to make so many more this year.  I am thankful for each and every person that has taken a chance on our band and I definitely don't take any of this lightly.  If our lives cross paths, for better or for worse, it was worth every second.  Rock n roll is just the tip of the iceberg.  It's the glue that holds us all together and inevitably gets us all high.  Rock n roll music saved my life.  Last week I celebrated 6 years of clean sober living.  I couldn't have done it without my bands, without my family, and without you people.  I won't get into the gory details but 6 years ago I was a wreck and headed one place really fast.  I was given a second chance at life and I made a pact with myself to live especially loud, if you get my drift.  Easier said than done.  It's been a lot of work and I still have to take it one day at a time but through rock n roll music I have had the chance to experience things I only could dream of when I was on the booze.  I'm definitely no saint but I am thankful that I've gotten the chance to make another run at it.  Most of all I'm extremely thankful for the people that have come into my life because of this crazy roller coaster ride.  In the end it makes it all worth it.

In The Air Tonight!

Hello everybody and welcome to The Official Blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  What a weekend we have coming up.  First of all it started with a bang as The Midnight Devil boys got invited to witness the spectacle that is Trans-Siberian Orchestra live at The Mid America Center in Council Bluffs.  Our good friend and my radio boss Mr. Crash Davis hooked us up with great tickets.  As we were leaving Sniper knew one of the security guards and he gave us VIP and backstage passes.  Now I'm definitely not the kind of guy that gets sentimental over meet and greets.  They are usually awkward and I never know what to say.  Al Pitrelli and the rest of his band were amazing and very personable to talk to.  Just the beginning of a great run here in Omaha.   Today we are releasing our new video and single for the song "Baptized by the Radio".  This new video will be released via Youtube at Midnight tonight but if you are present at The 21st Saloon you will get a very special live preview of the video before the rest of the world.  That brings us to tonight's show, The Grand Return of 3D In Your Face to The 21st Saloon.  We are doing a two night stand at our home away from home.  That's right a Friday and a Saturday show for all you lucky boys and girls.  Not only is this a special show but our crew has been busting their asses all week covering the back wall of The 21st Saloon stage with a giant video wall.  This is going to be a show unlike any you have seen in an Omaha club.  Things are about to get real.  We've played over 160 shows over 5 years at The 21st Saloon and we think of everyone there as family.  Come and join your messy, dysfunctional, loving family for one hell of a rock n roll celebration.  Shows start at 9 PM Friday and Saturday.  See ya there.

As we were walking into TSO tonight I caught a glimpse of us in the window of the door.  Three dudes with long hair, black jeans, and black leather jackets.  It's slightly by coincidence but I felt like I was part of a tough street gang heading into a rumble.   It was bad ass and I always forget how much I love hanging out with my band mates outside of rehearsals and shows.  I was interviewed today by Sam Pimper from The Fremont Tribune and we chatted about my old band from Fremont.  He asked "What it was like touring at such an age?"  I was honest I told him it was rough but extremely rewarding.  We were all best friends that hung out everyday and not just because of the band  We got drunk together, we got in trouble together, and we grew up in bars and venues across the Midwest.  We were terrible but we were hell bent on getting the hell out of Fremont and getting on with our adventure.  Any time you get those same feelings you get when you first started playing music it's a good thing.  You remember why it was you gave up everything else to pursue one of the most difficult careers in the world.  Officially Terminated was terrible for a lot of years but that's because we had to learn how to be a better functioning band and learn on our own terms.  By the time we finished playing we were untouchable in the local music community, or at least that's how I felt.

At this moment The Midnight Devils are giving me that same sensation.  Put us town to town with anybody else and we will boogie with the best of em.  Let me drive this point home though, it's not about the musical skill, or the money behind the band.  No it's about that smile that come across our faces as we hit the first note of the evening and we just know everyone is in store for quite the wild journey.  As I said before it's unpredictable and unstable.  With the return of 3D In Your Face it's like the family is getting back together and not just the band it's the you the fans as well.  We've had so many great times playing at The 21st Saloon.  It almost chokes me up a little bit.  3D In Your Face has been home for a lot of years and to get that lighting bolt back feels pretty special.  We have created something out of nothing and I keep having to remind myself of that.  Every thing we did the last 6 years we went out and got for ourselves.  You are never given anything in this business.  We all had goals coming into this and every time one of those goals gets met we set the sights a little higher.  My goal for this weekend is for us to sell out The 21st Saloon tonight and for our video to hit 10,000 views in a month.  Lofty I know but I believe this video is going to blow your mind and this show tonight is going to rip your face off.  Get ready because the train is leaving the station.  See ya real real soon.  Keep on believing.

Special thanks to our street team and all of those that have been helping us promote these upcoming shows.  "Get Street Team" was always a goal and now we can check that off.  We couldn't do it without you.

Who Will Be Drumming For 3D In Your Face?

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  I know you are all eagerly awaiting the big news.  Before we get into the dirty details, I would like to thank everyone that read last weeks blog.  You broke the record amount of views I have ever had for one blog post.  I would also like to thank Hot Rod for stepping up and guest writing.  This week we are taking a bit of time off in order to prepare for next weekends big release show.  3D In Your Face will be making our big return to The 21st Saloon in Omaha, NE on Friday, Nov.17th and Saturday, Sept. 18th.  We haven't preformed at The 21st Saloon since May 2016.  Not only is this going to be a giant rock n roll celebration but we will also be releasing the 2nd single and brand new music video from our latest album Lost in the Volume.  Have no fear if you can't make the show we will be releasing the music video live to the world via Youtube at 12:00 AM CST Saturday the 18th.  The 2nd single from the Lost in the Volume album is track number 8 and is called "Baptized by the Radio".  We filmed the music video at a bar called Don's in Memphis, NE back in August.  I can't tell you how excited I am for you to see this music video.  See you next weekend and don't forget to tune in to my radio show HAIR IN THE AIR at 10 PM CST this Saturday night on 101.9 The Keg.

So who is the new drummer for 3D In Your Face?  As many of you know we have had our share of drummers over the years.  I don't have one bad thing to say about any of the drummers that took the stage with us.  I realize that 3D In Your Face is a mega commitment.  You must be willing to give up everything in order to meet the demands of this band.  There are long hours, loads of miles, and three other big personalities to deal with.  No easy task.  Two years ago we parted ways with the current drummer at the time and one of my best friends, Jeremy "The Playboy" Deans.  We kept pushing forward through some great times and very tough set backs.  Two years later and it comes back full circle.  I am very excited and happy to say to you today The Playboy is back.  Last year Jeremy reached out to me on Thanksgiving and said "Let's jam again."  When The Midnight Devils started going electric we invited him over for a rehearsal and he showed us again why he was the best rock n roll drummer in this city.  We knew we needed him back in our lives.  It was only natural that we get him back involved with 3D In Your Face.  To see this guy perform on stage is mind blowing.  He plays good and he looks good doing it.  Not only is The Playboy a phenom on the drum kit but he may also be one of the funniest and nicest dudes I have ever met.  Backstage before the shows it's dick and fart jokes all the way until our intro is rolling.  In this business I've learned that you never say never.  We are truly greatful to have The Playboy back with us.  Just wait until you see him play and you will understand everything.

Before I let you go, today is Veterans Day and I always feel so much pride today.  I feel like I am friends with some of the greatest men and women on the planet.  These people are real heroes that sacrificed everything and did everything that their country asked of them.  I come from a family with a very rich history of US War Veterans unfortunately I was so young at the time that I didn't get to fully appreciate most of them.  With 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils I have found another family that has been blessed with heroes who are also into Rock n Roll.  Today I want to wish my family members Mike Cloyd, Matthew Miller, Sean Soucy, Gerald Glaza, and Corey Phillips a very happy Veterans Day.  I love you guys and I have trouble putting into words the amount of respect and admiration I have for you and what you did for this country.  Last but definitely not least my best friend and song writing partner is also an American War Veteran.  Chris "Sniper" Hineline and I have been through a whole heap of shit these last 6 years and I wouldn't change that for the world.  I love hearing the old war stories on the bus a 3 AM rolling down the highway.  I love how he tells me "You'd make a poor ranger." everythimg I stop the van for a coffee break.  His drive and work ethic has pushed 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils to a place we only dreamed of.  The works not even close to being done and we will keep pushing ourselves harder because we truly believe in this thing.  Happy Veterans Day to my best friend and rock n roll soul mate Sniper.  Here's to another 6 more years of dirty rock n roll on our own terms.  Death From Above.

To The 3D In Your Face Army
Many of you have wondered and asked many questions in regards to 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils. Let me help shed some light on this and hopefully answer some of these questions.

I am fortunate to have three very talented musicians working with me in 3D In Your Face. These guys are so talented and driven that they have also formed The Midnight Devils to continue expressing, exploring and performing music in the Midwest. Not just some of the greatest 80s music, but also to explore other avenues of music . Yes, they love performing for you that much.

I completely and whole heartedly support The Midnight Devils in everything they do. This is great news for fans of 3D, as it now means there will be more opportunities for you to enjoy your favorite music and band members. It also gives our fans a greater variety of music and entertainment.

While I love performing for our fans every week, due to my personal schedule and other obligations it makes performing EVERY week an extreme challenge for me. Some of you know that my family is now in Parker, Colorado and it is more difficult to spend time with them being so far away.

3D In Your Face was formed 18 years ago to create an incredible production and event at every show. In order to meet those demands, a great deal of time goes into preparation, crew, equipment and the performance. I will and shall continue to do 3D In Your Face shows with my talented band mates, but only when we can meet these standards. Many of our fans came to see us perform every single weekend. They made long road trips, financial and personal costs, and are committed to the success of the band. Words cannot express how deeply honored I feel and I do not take that commitment lightly, and I can tell you neither do the rest of the 3D band and crew. The belief in the band and our fans commitment is the reason why 3D In Your Face has performed for 18 years and will still continue to do so.

As for Alan King Aka Hotrod. I am spending some time with my friends and family and also some time recording and exploring my talent. I am also very excited preparing for the upcoming 3D  In Your Face shows.  Nov 18-19 Friday AND Saturday at the 21st Saloon on 96th and Lst in Omaha, NE.  This will be the return to many, many friends, family, and fans. In honor of this return, the rest of the guys and I have agreed that it will be something bigger, crazy and more spectacular than any of the previous 160 shows at the 21st Saloon. Months of prep and planning have been going into this event. And this will be an EPIC show miles above and beyond anything you have ever seen before. This return will also include the release of our new video for the new single “Baptized by the Radio” from our 5th original CD “Lost in the Volume”. If there was a weekend to be sure and see 3D In Your Face, Nov 18-19 will be the weekend. One night or both, if you are reading through this then you are required to attend!

I look forward to spending time with the 3D In Your Farce fans and friends very soon, and yes there is a good chance you may also find me at an upcoming Midnight Devils show.

I Remember Halloween

Hello everybody, welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  We have so much going on this weekend and it just all piled up in the last few days.  First and foremost we will all celebrating Halloween this weekend.  You know you wait all year long for the big Halloween celebration.  It's the one day the playing field is equal and only the best man or zombie will walk away from the party in better shape then when they arrived.  So what's going on this weekend.  I am so excited to tell you that today I will be heading back to my hometown of Fremont, NE.  I will be doing a very special Glam Halloween Rock or Bust DJ set at Tin Lizzy's Tavern in Fremont 9pm - 1am.  That's right you heard best.  Expect this to be like a live radio broadcast except add liquor, family, and The Jager Girls.  I will be spinning glam, sleaze, punk, metal, classic rock, and even a few oldies.  It's going to be one hell of a rock n roll party.  Then Saturday The Midnight Devils Tour kicks back up for a double header in Fremont.  At 2:30 PM we will be doing an early show at The Fremont Mall for The Fremont Monster Walk.  This is a great event that gives underprivileged children a safe and reliable place to Trick or Treat.  All proceeds are going to The Low Income Ministries in Fremont.  Then later in the evening we head to the adult party.  We are making a return visit to one of the first bars that gave The Midnight Devils a chance, not to mention I broke the railing of the bar during a show one night.  RD's Place is going to be packed to the rafters with the wildest Halloween Party in Fremont.  We will be doing a costume contest at midnight so dress to win.

Tuesday, Nov. 1st  Sniper and I will be doing a live radio interview at 12 PM CST with Lunatic Fist on Regal Rock Radio,  We have been receiving some great radio support from stations all over the world.  We can't thank all those DJ's enough for spinning our records.  You guys are keeping the spirit of Rock n Roll alive.

On to the Halloween festivities.  I love this holiday and I know so many of you do too.  This was one of the first times I actually had the guts to dress up like Gene Simmons.  I figured I could get away with it without my dad flying off the handle.  I must have been 13 or 14 and my cousin Mel took me to Omaha to go costume shopping.  I wanted the full outfit and at the store they had one for $700.  I settled on a cheap black wig and the official kiss makeup kit.  I thought well hell I could go as Gene Simmons from the Dressed To Kill album cover.  Everyone knows that album cover.  It's like my Abbey Road.  Nobody got it and I was stuck walking around the neighborhood in a suit and pants with a wig and makeup smeared across my face.  I think this was the last time I went out Trick or Treating but I still made off with pillow cases full of candy.  At 14 you can walk forever and knock on every door in the city.  That was the first time I took a trip to the painted side.  I then realized it was cool as hell or at least cool to me and my friends.  We would paint our faces for any event.  Basketball games, school dances,  Tuesday night.  It was insanity but we loved the attention it got us.  Plus we were actually huge KISS nerds so do you ever really need an excuse?

The reason I love Halloween is because it lets everyone, even me, explore outside the comfort zone.  Granted playing in a band for all these years we are always at the office but that's the best part.  We become part of the party.  We get to be the soundtrack and watch all the madness unfold.  It's perfect.  You just wait for Sunday morning when all the party animals are doing the walk of shame in a naughty Batman costume.  I told you level playing field.  It's still a goal of mine to find a full KISS costume but I probably wouldn't even wear it.  I have one of those apartments that are top to bottom KISS collectibles.  My mom walked in the other day and said "Geeze Sam you really have a lot of KISS merch."  I told her I haven't thrown any away since I moved out of your basement 12 years ago.  I can't wait to see what the weekend brings and believe me there will be lots of pictures and videos.  Keep checking our social media accounts if you can't make any of the shows and don't forget to make my radio show, HAIR IN THE AIR, part of your Halloween fun.  It's airs Saturday night at 10 PM on 101.9 The Keg.

Delivering The Goods.

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  They always say you're only as good as your last show.  Well I feel The Midnight Devils came out last week and proved that we are a new force upon the Rock n Roll community.  We kicked off our new tour and made our debut at The 21st Saloon in Omaha, NE.  If you didn't catch the craziness on social media than I will bring you up to speed.  Not only was the show a great success, the band played was firing on all cylinders, and we actually succeeded in our first real test going out on our own.  The cherry on top was our new friends Tommy Henricksen, Ryan Roxie, and Glen Sobel from The Alice Cooper band stopping out and hopping up on stage for a classic T-Rex song.  The place absolutely went crazy.  15 year old Sam Spade was completely without words.  I just couldn't believe how well everything went.  Sometimes it's good and sometimes you know you're sitting on something very powerful.  Saturday's show at Loess Hills Harley-Davidson was an absolute blast.  I was just as nervous for this show because I knew we would all be going on 4 hours of sleep.  I didn't know if my voice would hold out.  We walked out on stage at 12:15 PM (which may be one of the earliest shows I've ever played) kicked it into overdrive and did exactly what we do best.  I kept looking over at Sniper think "Shit there's no stopping this now".  I want to say thank you and express my extreme gratitude to all of the fans, friends, and family that showed up to welcome this new musical direction.  I know you still have a ton of questions and soon enough you will have answers.  Until then i can only ask you to trust us.  We love you all and we are doing everything in our power to deliver the goods.

Last week I sat up at 4 AM nervous as hell writing a blog.  I love this blog and I love how it's become an insiders source to 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  You don't realize how much of a therapy this blog is.  Some weeks I dread writing it because nothing is really going on.  Some weeks there is so much happening that I simply run out of time.  Tonight I sit here and I can tell you that things are going good.  We had an amazing rehearsal tonight gearing up for our OEAA Showcase show Friday, Oct. 21st at The Waiting Room.  I feel that the future is bright and when things start looking good I feel inspired.  I'm inspired to write, I'm inspired to network my ass off, and I'm inspired to take care of the business.  The 21st Saloon show was a proving ground for The Midnight Devils.  It was our first test stepping out into the deep end. Tonight I feel like we are treading water but still have a long ways to go.  I knew it wasn't going to be easy but through your support, and the support of those close to us pushing us on, we will get there.

This week we are taking a well deserved break from performing but that doesn't mean that we are taking time away from the band.  Tomorrow I will be singing some guest vocals on an old friends new record and I think at the end of the day that's exactly what it's all about.  There are no egos or attitudes.  We are all here for the same reason and that is to listen to some great Rock n Roll music.  We are all apart of this music community and by spreading that love around we are making this a better more creative place.  Saturday I'm very excited to tell you I am doing a promo video for the OEAA Awards at Huber Cadillac.  I will be doing car pool karaoke to Andrew WK's "Party Hard" in a Cadillac.  Then Sniper and I will be making a very special meet and greet appearance at The Scream in The Dark Film Festival at Westwood Cinema in Omaha, NE.  Our song "In Your Face" was chossen to be in a brand new indie horror film called The Barn which will be screening at this film festival.  We got our fingers in everyone's pie.  Keep on believing and spreading the word.  We are all in this together.  This revolution and change is going to bring about great things for all of us.  That sounds like a political ad.

One Bad Mother: Raw Power

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official Blog of The Midnight Devils and 3D In Your Face.  It's now time.  As I am writing this I'm going over some last minute practise songs for this weekend.  For me the night is just getting started but by the time you read this you will be getting ready to destroy another Friday evening.   Tonight is the homecoming/debut of The Midnight Devils full-on electric circus at our home bar in Omaha, NE, The 21st Saloon.  Sniper, Playboy, and I have been busting our asses getting this thing ready for you.  We are coming out firing high on some really potent rock n roll.  Bringing the attitude and the danger that I know you so desperately crave.  Tonight is also a Neon Party sponsored by Mr. Joey Neon and Neon Energy Drinks.  Get your glow on with The Midnight Devils.  Also my radio station 101.9 The Keg has been so gracious as to give us three pairs of tickets to see Alice Cooper at The Ralston Arena this Saturday night.  We will be hosting the first ever Rock N Roll Olympics to win these tickets to see The Godfather of Shock Rock in the flesh and bone.  Saturday we are heading out to Pacific Junction, IA for a free all ages show at Loess Hills Harley Davidson.  This show is apart of HOGtoberfest and will begin at noon.  Food, drinks, bikes, and damn dirty rock n roll in the mornin'.  Baby were we're headed there aint no rest stops.  Get in the van and let's boogie.

Nights before shows with 3D In Your Face are always very exciting for me.  The anticipation builds and it gets tough to sleep.  With The Midnight Devils it's a whole different ball game.  It's fear of the dark.  It's like walking that razor's edge.  The unknown is terrifying yet truly exhilarating.  It's that same old feeling that I got stepping on stage 11 years ago not really even sure if we could finish an entire set.  I love it.  This means something and I think all the work and stress we've put into this band shows in the heart and soul of the songs.  It's pure and honest no bullshit rock n roll.  We've decided to do things differently and get back to the reason we started playing guitar in the first place.  It's that electrical spark that can't be created anywhere else.  I know, I've tried.  When it's 4 AM and you can't yet put your guitar down because you have to play it a few more times.  I was talking with Corey Phillips, one of the most amazing photographers in Omaha, and he told me forget about what you guys did in the past.  This is a whole new ball game.  Do it harder, do it louder, and for fuck sake turn some heads doing it.  Corey not only takes the best pictures but he also gives the best advice.  I told him Corey I have to get off the phone you've got me all jacked up and I need to capture this in the blog.

The raw power (borrowing from Iggy and The Stooges).  What else is there?  I was thinking about writing about how stressed everyone was getting before the tour kick off but fuck that.  We aren't stressed.  We have the best job in the world.  Later tonight we are going to be in a crowded room with our best friends screaming at the top of our lungs.  There will be booze, sweat, and blood I know that much for sure.  I just keep telling myself "Now how bad do you want this?  Can you push yourself harder?"  Baby I've got so much more to give.  I haven't even started.  Tonight is going to be something special I can already feel that.  It's going to be something different.  Corey told me "You better be bringing the pain tonight.  People are going to be watching".  I told him "You don't even have to worry abou that.  This is what we do best."  Change is good and I think change is going to be revolution.  This is just the start of something good I hope you can hang on.

PS.  The new 3D In Your Face music video is finished.  Jeremy Partridge did an amazing job and we would like to thank the great city of Memphis, NE for letting us terrorize your town.  More details on a release date and upcoming show will be posted soon.  Don't worry we aren't leaving you high and dry.

Reaching Out. Touching Me. Touching You.

Hello everybody and welcome to HAIR IN THE AIR, The Official Blog of 3D In Your Face and The Midnight Devils.  I would like to start this blog off by thanking each and everyone of you that came to the first Midnight Devils performance last week in Nebraska City, NE at Sandy's.  The out pouring of love and support was amazing.  After the show as I was driving back to Omaha alone I couldn't stop smiling about what had just happened a few hours before.  We came to town kicked some ass, blew up some fireworks, and played from-the-heart-and soul dirty Rock N Roll.  I know a lot of you couldn't make the show and were wishing us well from home and we thank you for that.  We truly believe in what The Midnight Devils are doing.  Our goal is clear now and we aim to take this as far as possible.  This weekend we aren't playing any shows which is very weird.  Instead we are getting things set up for the upcoming run of shows.  Tonight we will be shooting promo pictures for The Midnight Devils with photographer Corey Phillips at a historic abandoned rock bar in the Omaha area.  Sunday we will be shooting a music video for the second single off our new album Lost In The Volume.  Both of these things are huge for the band and we have put a lot of time and energy into the pre-production of these two events.  I will try and keep everyone updated with live video from the two shoots.  Go to www.facebook.com/themidnightdevils and www.facebook.com/3dinyourfaceband and follow us on this journey.  Last but not least you can still get your fix of hairy glam rock n roll by tuning into my radio show HAIR IN THE AIR, Saturday night at 10 PM CST on 101.9 The Keg.  You can also add The Midnight Devils on Instagram at @the_Midnight_Devils and 3D In Your Face at @3dinyourface.

Last night I was asked by a great friend of mine and former guitar tech Sean of the Dead to come by and sing with his punk rock band at a show in Omaha featuring The Vibrators, veteran UK punk rockers.  It was a thrill to jump up on stage and sing two songs totalling 3 minutes all together.  The Vibrators played a uncompromising blend of rock n roll that really got my gears going.  It made me look at The Midnight Devils in a whole new light.  We aren't a punk rock band but I feel that we are taking elements of punk rock, old school glam, and hair metal and creating a style of music that is unique.  I keep using the phrase "from-the-heart" because I'm not quite sure how to put a label on what we are doing.  I'm not really sure we know what we are doing.  It's not Bon Jovi and it's not The Ramones but it meets somewhere in the middle.  The Vibrators had that unique sound and style that made me smile from ear to ear and gave me goosebumps for their entire set.  It was rock n roll no labels no bullshit.  That's exactly what we want for this band.  No rock star nonsense, no egos, and no agendas.  We are the guys in the trenches slugging it out at the tough shows because we've got nothing else to lose.  It's what we do best.

I was talking to Corey Phillips about this upcoming photo shoot and The Midnight Devils and I told him I thought this band was going to be a "Revolution".  Maybe revolution is the wrong word but I feel that it's going to bring about change.  People want honest music from guys that are going through the same hardships in life that everyone else is.  I love KISS more than any other band but Paul Stanley doesn't know what it's like playing to a half empty club on a Thursday night pouring his heart out into every song.  In the end it's not about the style of music we play it's about the emotions that are conveyed on stage or through the stereo. It's the songs that touch people.   I think above all that's the thing that is going to win every time.  It's not about playing the hits.  We've been down that road and I still love playing "Rock N Roll All Nite".  It's got to be more about touching people with the Midnight Devils story.  It's about reaching that raw nerve that gives you the goosebumps.  Easier said than done in a club full of people that want to hear Poison songs but I truly believe it can be accomplished.  Corey told me that everything happens for a purpose.  Sniper and I felt like taking on The Midnight Devils was like jumping out into dark water.  Now, I realize that that jump needed to happen in order for us to get to where we want to go.  It's hard to see when you are in the thick of it.  Without the help of certain people talking us of the proverbial ledge I don't think any of this would be possible.  "Unrest in the Midwest" is more than just a clever name it actually means that we are looking for change and on our own terms that change is going to happen.
